Welcome to Steeltown – Where Stories Start in Pittsburgh

Review Bureau

Since 2003, Steeltown Entertainment Project has been a driving force behind the growth of the media and entertainment industry in Southwestern Pennsylvania. What began as a mission to connect Pittsburgh with Hollywood has evolved into a vibrant nonprofit incubator that supports the next generation of storytellers right here at home.

At Steeltown, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. That’s why we invest in people, not just projects. Our programs empower youth, elevate diverse voices, and foster collaboration between local creatives and national industry professionals.

Whether you’re a high school student dreaming of directing, a college grad writing your first script, or a seasoned filmmaker looking for community and mentorship, Steeltown is here to help you take the next step.

Our key initiatives include:

  • The Teen Film Contest Series, where young filmmakers get hands-on experience and real recognition
  • Steeltown Indie, supporting emerging directors and independent media makers
  • The Elly Awards, celebrating excellence in youth media and impact storytelling
  • The Film Lab, an incubator space offering mentorship, funding guidance, and industry access
  • Diversity Initiatives, aimed at breaking down barriers in media careers for underrepresented voices

We also host events, screenings, workshops, and pitch sessions to connect the region’s creative community with decision-makers from across the country.

At its heart, Steeltown is a launchpad, built on passion, purpose, and Pittsburgh pride. We champion not only storytelling as an art form but also as a force for economic development, education, and cultural change.

If you believe in storytelling, if you believe in community, and if you believe in building the future of media from the ground up, you belong at Steeltown.
