Movie studio supporters speak up for state tax incentive
On Thursday, supporters of the movie studio being built on the Tri State Sports property testified before the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee amidst lawmakers considering the future of the Pennsylvania state film tax incentive; there are currently three bills in the House and Senate focusing on altering or eliminating the current state film tax credit.
Jeffrey Rotwitt and partner Pacifica ventures of Santa Monica, Ca plan to build a 370,000 square-foot production facility which would serve as both a movie studio, complete with five studios, seven sound stages, and an interactive museum with a 4-D movie theater.
“Nothing is more compelling than the allure of the entertainment business. It cuts across all cohorts … everyone has someone they look up to in TV or film,” said Rotwitt. He strongly attests that this production facility will be a major asset to the state in drawing tourists and creating long term jobs.
The tax credit’s role in this studio would be to entice filmmakers to choose Pennsylvania for their shooting locations and enabling this studio to be competitive with other states with tax incentives. With this studio would also come many more local jobs. The studio could bring as many as 1,000 permanent and 300 construction jobs to the county. Delaware County Daily Times, 5/7/2009
