Central PA gives movie thumbs up after production nets area $500K
While Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have hosted frequent big-budget film productions within the last few years, Harrisburg is starting to get similar opportunities.
Recently “Another Harvest Moon,” staring Cybil Shepherd, Ernest Borgnine, and Doris Robert was shot on location at the former Harrisburg State Hospital, as well as in nearby York Haven, and post-production work was done in Lancaster. The film tells the story of four Americans dealing with life in a nursing home.
The production was completed in 144 days in Central PA, which meant 478 hotel room night for the cast and crew and added $436,000 into the local economy. “Besides the new business for hotels, the work on this movie generated income opportunities for caterers, supply companies, restaurants, dry cleaners, and car rental firms,” says Mickey Rowley of the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
Rowley also stated “This is new revenue Harrisburg and Pennsylvania would not have received had we not offered production companies the opportunity to write off some of their expenses.” Director/producer of “Another Harvest Moon” Robert Black hopes to shoot another film project in Pennsylvania soon Keystone Edge, 4/23/2009
