Film Notes: In 'Control' at BIFA & Quick Takes
In 'Control' at BIFA:
"Control," a portrait of Joy Division guitarist Ian Curtis, has snagged 10 nominations for the British Independent Film Awards. It has yet to open here, but it was produced by Pitts- burgher Todd Eckert.
"Control" was nominated for Best British Independent Film along with "Notes on a Scandal," "Eastern Promises," "When Did You Last See Your Father?" and "Hallam Foe."
Anton Corbijn was nominated for director and debut director, and the film earned nods for leading actor Sam Riley (also in the running for most promising newcomer), supporting players Samantha Morton and Toby Kebbell, screenwriter Matt Green-halgh and cinematographer Martin Ruhe. It also is competing for best achievement in production.

Quick Takes:
Jason Strong and George Clooney now share a movie credit: "Michael Clayton."
The 31-year-old Pittsburgh native, who lives in New York, is billed as "First Year." Strong is one of the younger lawyers drawn into the $3 billion lawsuit that touches off moral reckonings all around in the top-notch thriller.
There will be a free screening of "Doing Therapy" today at 8 p.m. at Cefalo's, 428 Washington Ave., Carnegie. Joe Giacobello wrote and directed the lighthearted movie and also appears in it alongside actress Barbara Winters.
Set in present-day Pittsburgh, it tells the story of a Hollywood actress who develops a problem with panic attacks. Details: bellofilms.com.
"Carmilla's Kiss," a dark comedy by writer-director Michael McGovern, will screen Friday night at the Rex Theater, 1602 E. Carson St., South Side.
The event will start at 9 p.m. with a performance by Una De Luna, featuring Marla Degenhardt, who also sings the movie's main theme. The screening will follow immediately. Admission is $5; you must be 21 or older to attend.
"Carmilla's Kiss" also will play as part of the Zombie Fest at the ExpoMart in Monroeville. The 3 p.m. showing Saturday will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the director and cast members.
