Halloween Smiley Cookies Make Movie Appearance
Eat'n Park's Smiley Cookie breaks out to a national audience with its appearance in a new movie targeted to children.
The new movie, R.L. Stine's Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It, is from the creator of the popular Goosebumps book series for kids. The DVD hits retailers, Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will debut on the Cartoon Network, Friday, Sept. 7.
Smiley's movie appearance marks Eat'n Park's first effort to market its famous Smiley Cookie on a national stage and coincides with the launch of www.smileycookie.com - a site dedicated to the online sales of the iconic Smiley Cookie.
The direct-to-DVD movie, which stars Emily Osment, co-star of the Disney Channel's popular "Hannah Montana" series, was filmed in Pittsburgh last fall and features a special cameo appearance by Eat'n Park's Halloween edition Smiley Cookie.
Halloween Smiley Cookies are displayed during several scenes and eaten by the film's star, Emily Osment. The movie also features actor Cody Linley. Both actors have regular roles on the "Hannah Montana" series.
"This movie placement is a great opportunity to introduce Smiley Cookies to a national audience and to tap into the wide appeal of the Disney Channel's stars to kids and families, who comprise a large part of Eat'n Park's guests," said Kevin O'Connell, senior vice president of marketing for Eat'n Park Restaurants. "The timing of the movie's release, which follows the huge success of Disney's High School Musical 2, should increase its acceptance and get some great exposure for Smiley!"
According to O'Connell, Eat'n Park's Halloween Smiley Cookies have historically been the chain's best-selling special edition cookie each year in stores and online.
