Thanksgiving Weekend
Steeltown's Youth and Media Initiative with Holy Family Institute Hopes to Launch in Early 2009.
The mission of Steeltown Entertainment Project is to nurture promising talent and to incubate
meaningful and commercially viable entertainment projects in Southwestern Pennsylvania by connecting
former Pittsburghers who are working in the entertainment industry with the region's human,
cultural, educational, and economic resources. For over one hundred years, Holy Family Institute
has been providing a nurturing, loving, structured environment for young people facing challenging
family situations, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to lead responsible lives and
develop relationships built on faith, hope, and love. Through the youth and media initiative,
Steeltown will arrange for film and television professionals to work with the students, staff and
alumni at Holy Family to make a promotional film which will convey the remarkable stories of
transformation and redemption for which this organization has been a part. Students will also get
hands on experience working in media and be exposed to different career possibilities in the
entertainment industry.
Steeltown hopes to begin working with Holy Family students in early 2009. We are very pleased to
acknowledge receipt of some initial funding from The Grable Foundation towards the Youth and Media
Initiative. If you or your organization would like to help support the Initiative, please see the
information below for how to contribute further.
On November 28th, Pittsburghers everywhere came together to support Steeltown's Youth and Media
Initiative being done in association with Holy Family Institute as part of the red-carpet "My Tale
Of Two Cities" screening which sold-out the Byham Theater as the culminating event celebrating
Pittsburgh's 250th birthday. After the film which received a standing ovation from an audience
which laughed and applauded throughout the movie's 85 minute running time, students from Holy Family
were able to join Mr. McFeely of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Joanne Rogers, Franco Harris, Sister
Linda Yankoski, and other of Pittsburgh's favorite neighbors from the cast to sing "Won't You Be My
Neighbor?"
