Celebrate the city of Pittsburgh through cinema.

The Steeltown Film Lab aims to give real world experience to Pittsburgh’s students and emerging professionals. We’ve partnered the University of Pittsburgh and production company “Two Kids With A Camera” to launch an innovative learning experience with Steeltown’s first feature film production lab.

The Steeltown Film Lab gives on-set experience to beginners as they work with industry professionals on a feature film. The lab will both teach film theory while participants gain practical skills through hands-on experience. All participants will get to shadow different crew positions in different departments.

This unique initiative will work with  emerging talent from universities and the Hill District communities, give new voices in film their first onset experience, launch the careers of young filmmakers, and go into full production of a feature film which highlights Pittsburgh as a central location.

The Rehabilitation of the Hill District

A story about two women with opposing backgrounds.

A story about a neighborhood and discussing the trials around bringing about change.

MORE ABOUT THE FILM

The feature film, set in the Hill District, follows Gwendolyn Livingston, a successful app designer in San Francisco, who returns to the Hill District for her grandmother’s 85th birthday and becomes involved in her family’s effort to redevelop the Hill.  During their efforts, Gwen and her family face opposition from a young woman, Kelly, who has been living and working in the Hill with a local non-profit who have their doubts about whether the Livingston’s plans for redevelopment will benefits the community.  Gwen finds that trying to help the community where she is from is more challenging than she first thought.
